Pensioner’s horror injuries after being battered by thug in his garden in Gateshead – The Sun

A PENSIONER was left with horror injuries after he was attacked in his garden by a thug who hopped his fence.

Robert Thompson, 74, needed surgery on a broken hip, fractured cheekbone and a broken nose after he was battered in Gateshead.

The pensioner has released images of his injuries in a bid to catch the culprit.

Robert can be seen with dark bruises on his face and arm following the horror.

Police said the yob jumped over his garden fence before launching into the unprovoked attack on April 22.

He then fled the scene on foot before getting into a black car just after midday.

Cops are now appealing for information and say the suspect is described as white and aged in his early 20s.

He was slight and had a scruffy beard and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Detective Constable Ben Malinski said: "This was a callous and unprovoked attack which left a vulnerable pensioner needing surgery.

"Thankfully Mr Thompson has made a speedy recovery and is recuperating well, but we are determined to find whoever is responsible for this vicious assault."

"We have carried out a number of enquiries in connection with this incident and are now appealing to the public to information.

"If you saw anything, or you think you might have information about who is responsible, please come forward as soon as possible."
