Will Laura Donnelly return in The Nevers part 2?

Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Nevers part 1.

Laura Donnelly has amassed a dedicated following of fans from her work in the fantasy series Outlander and now The Nevers.

Donnelly left Outlander after season three, leaving the fate of her character, Jenny Fraser up in the air for fans.

Despite her character playing a prominent role in the original book series, fans were disappointed when Donnelly decided not to reprise her role in the Starz show.

Jenny first appeared in season one, making a few notable appearances throughout the first series, however, the star behind the character left to take on new roles, such as Amelia in The Nevers.

Now that The Nevers part one has finished, Donnelly has shared some details about the fate of Amelia and given an update on season two.

Speaking to Deadline, Donnelly said: “I think that she has a lot to wrestle with within herself. I think that she’s got a lot of stuff that she needs to come to terms with, and I wonder about that, especially as an emotional arc.

“She has managed to keep everything contained and maintain control, but obviously, that is now going to have to change going forward.”

Part one of The Nevers finished with Amelia finally coming face-to-face with the Galanthi, the mysterious alien being that gave the characters their powers.

It isn’t clear how this will change the characters of the show at large in the next season, but Donnelly has promised that it will change Amelia and the dynamic of part two.

The star explained that the “meeting with the Galanthi” is what will play a major part in the transformation of her character going forward.

Donnelly didn’t just talk about the future of the show, she also discussed what is next in store for her, exciting The Never fans with a straightforward answer.

When asked about her next project she simply said that the HBO is the only thing in the pipeline, making it clear plans for The Nevers part two are well underway already.

She added: “Yeah. I’m straight back into this, and that will take up, certainly, I would say, the rest of this year I think.

“I don’t know exact time frames. So, Amalia’s really me until pretty much next year.”

A release date for The Nevers part two is unconfirmed, though it is expected to drop in Spring of 2022.

Philippa Goslett is the new showrunner of the series, taking over from Joss Whedon after he dropped out from the project.

Goslett is known for her work on Mary Magdalene and How To Talk To Girls At Parties, with The Nevers being her first television project.

Fans have been taking to Twitter to share their love for Laura Donnelly as Amelia and their thoughts on the show as a whole.

One fan said: “Laura Donnelly is Hundred points 100% perfect casting! #TheNevers”

Another fan added: “Laura Donnelly is crushing the first season of the Nevers. So are the other actors. Will Donnelly and Pip Torrens in particular this show has real potential to be something special.”

A third replied: “She is a fantastic actress who is so talented and there’s only o e Jenny she is very talented.”

The Nevers is available to watch on HBO and HBO Max.
