Why did AJ leave Strictly as dancer appears on I'm A Celebrity 2020?

Before joining the cast of I’m A Celebrity 2020, AJ Pritchard was best known as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing.

The dancer and choreographer, 26, from Stoke-on-Trent, made it to the top six couples on Strictly last year with his celebrity partner, YouTuber Saffron Barker, but they were eliminated the week after the Blackpool special.

After four years on the BBC One show, AJ announced back in March that he had quit the show.

But why did he decide to leave Strictly?

Why did AJ Pritchard leave Strictly Come Dancing?

After announcing his departure as one of the professionals on Strictly Come Dancing, AJ explained that he made the decision because he wanted to do ‘other things’ with his career.

The dancer explained in an interview with Lorraine: ‘ I was there for four years, and for me I felt like I left on a real high and I feel there’s other things I want to do with my career and other projects I want to push, and things I want to do with my brother. (Love Island star Curtis Pritchard)’.

In the statement released after AJ’s departure from Strictly was announced, his team said: ‘After four years on Strictly Come Dancing, AJ has decided the time is right to leave the show and follow his dreams to explore opportunities in the presenting world alongside his brother Curtis.

‘AJ would like to thank the team at Strictly and everyone at the BBC for giving him such a brilliant opportunity.

‘AJ would also like to send his love and gratitude to all who have followed and supported his career.

‘He is excited for you all the join him on the next chapter of his journey.’

After leaving Strictly, AJ went on launch a podcast with his brother, Curtis and the pair were also meant to go on a UK-wide tour together  this year that sadly had to be postponed due to coronavirus.
