The Masked Singer star ‘told off’ for nearly exposing identity with contraband item

The Masked Singer: Mel B revealed to be Seahorse

The Masked Singer has unveiled both Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Mel B after the pair became the first two celebrities to be eliminated by the panel. Mo Gilligan soon realised it was pop star Mel behind the disguise of Seahorse, despite many of those watching at home not so sure. Now, speaking to Express.co.uk and other press earlier this week, she explained how she was told off by bosses after turning up with signature “leopard print ear pods.”

Last weekend, another six stars took to the stage to sing their hearts out as they desperately tried not to be rumbled.

Grandfather Clock, Seahorse, Viking, Blob, Bushbaby and Harlequin were all hoping to remain unmasked.

However, one of the celebrities had to leave and it was Seahorse who was eliminated by the panel after being placed in the bottom three.

To the surprise of many of those watching at home, it was Spice Girl Mel B behind the whimsical costume.

One person who had been sure of Seahorse’s identity was Mo, who placed his bets on the star as soon as she had finished performing.

But it seems she could have been exposed before even taking to the stage after Mel confessed the giveaway items she had brought with her.

Mel, who was given the nickname Scary Spice in the five-piece girl group, is known for her trademark leopard print.

And it seems this nearly gave away her identity when she arrived to take part in the programme.

Explaining the measures taken to keep herself under wraps, Mel said: “You have a balaclava visor and a hoodie that says, ‘Don’t speak to me.’

“You’re completely in disguise your feet and gloves – like everything’s covered.

“Apart from I did have you know – because I’m a big fan of leopard print – I did arrive with a leopard print bag and my leopard print ear pods,” she admitted.

The star went on to say she had to make sure they were disguised from view so as not to expose who she was.

She revealed she was told off: “I had to then cover up and hide them and they were like ‘Noooo!’ You’re meant to bring everything in plain black.’”

Of course, Mel was probed on whether she had any idea over who her competitors were.

But she was completely stumped, commenting: “I’ve no idea. I mean, I’m trying to think of like, athletes, singers, comedians and I literally have no idea.

“I mean, they cast it really, really well!” She said – before reflecting on season one’s line-up.

Mel continued: “If you think about who was on last season, from Skunk Anansi’s Skin to all the all the different people, that actually when they’ve got exposed, you were like ‘No way!’

“Katherine Jenkins, you know, they do it really, really well. So literally, I have no bl**dy idea, apart from me and Sophie, because Sophie got exposed first.”

There are still 10 stars in the running hoping to keep their identities concealed as the show returns for its third episode.

But who will become the next to be eliminated as viewers frantically try to guess exactly who is behind the mask?

The Masked Singer airs Saturdays from 7pm on ITV.
