BBC’s hit show The Fall could be making its highly anticipated return to screens. The nail-biting show was an instant success with fans who loved the suspense of the crime series and according to star Gillian Anderson they are in ‘discussions.’
The psychological thriller was an instant hit, drawing in over 2.3 million viewers on the first episode.
With Gillian Anderson and her co-star Jamie Dornan both being familiar faces, the show was bound to be a success.
The Fall introduced fans to cold-hearted Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (played by Gillian Anderson) as she and her team tried to capture Glasgow’s infamous serial killer.
Despite her and the crew working tirelessly, the murderer continued to leave behind a trail of victims.
It was in the first episode that audiences learned Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) was the serial killer.
Hidden in plain sight, he looked like the typical family man, he was a doting father of two, married and had a successful career as a bereavement counsellor.
The action-packed thriller saw Paul sneak out of his house, often at night to commit his sexually motivated murders.
Stella was initially called in from London to help the Glasgow team, as 28 days had gone by without any resolution.
Her quick thinking led her to discover a link between the original murder and two recent ones.
Motivated by her personal experience as a victim of male violence against women, Stella was determined to arrest the killer and get justice for the victims.
Later on in the series, Paul was caught by Stella and her team after a painstaking stand-off, where he was shot and treated in hospital.
In the finale, fans watched the shocking turn of events, where Paul was admitted into a clinic to undergo psychiatric assessment ahead of the trial but with no escape route, he decided to commit suicide in his cell.
Despite the gut-wrenching ending bringing the show to a close, fans still wondered if The Fall would come back with the fourth season.
In a recent interview actress Gillian revealed some exciting news about the prospects of returning as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson.
In the interview, she disclosed that she would love to return and said: “That’s something we are in discussions about.”
Gillian added: “Even when we ended those three seasons, we talked about the fact that one day, maybe in the same way that Prime Suspect came back, there were huge breaks between their seasons.
“Our writer-creator-director Allan Cubitt has been ready to dip back in and revisit it and her.”
Fans were excited at the prospects of a potential return, one tweeted: “Stella Gibson coming back is the only thing that matters to me, the only thing.”
As a superintendent, there’s no doubt that she would return to solve another case, perhaps there could be a twist that revives the case of Paul Spector.
