Spoilers: Corrie's return to six episodes brings huge twists

Coronation Street fans are in for a treat as, come next week, things will feel a little more normal with Britain’s longest running soap back up to a quota of six weekly episodes.

And that means double the drama as Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) gets shocking news about a death while Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) is forced to make a big confession to Kevin Webster (Michael le Vell)

There are also heartbreaking scenes for Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) as she is forced to face up to the grim reality of Oliver’s fate – but will she accept the doctor’s opinion and how will she cope when it’s time to consider turning off the life support.

Speaking about the return to six episodes, producer Iain MacLeod said: Producer Iain MacLeod said: ‘The amount of work that has gone into keeping Coronation Street on the air, and getting it back to six episodes a week, has been staggering. I am so proud of the tireless efforts of everyone behind the scenes and onscreen.

‘We have been energised and motivated by the nearly 60 years of heritage behind the show, and the massively important place it still holds in the Nation’s hearts. Throughout lockdown and beyond, the regular instalments of Britain’s best-loved soap have taken on even greater significance, giving viewers a beacon of familiarity and normality amid the craziest of times.

‘It is often said that our characters are like members of the viewers’ extended families. And at a time when many people couldn’t see their loved ones in real life, their fictional friends on the cobbles became even more essential, as the audience escaped in half-hour bursts into the wonderful world of Weatherfield.’

Coronation Street returns to a six episode week from Monday September 14, with editions going out at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
