Spoilers: Alya exposes Geoff's abuse in Corrie to save Yasmeen

Since Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) desperately fought back and left her vile, abusive husband Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) for dead in Coronation Street, fans have hoped that the police and the community will see the truth of the story – that she was driven to the action and has been suffering at his hands for months behind closed doors.

However, with things looking bad and a terrified Yasmeen finding herself charged and facing the possibility of spending her remand behind bars, it seems that everyone is divided over whether she is guilty of trying to kill Geoff or whether she was acting in self defence.

With gossip rife in Weatherfield, Alya (Sair Khan) is aghast that anyone could even consider Yasmeen capable of a violent act deliberately and she is worried that no-one can see the true monstrosity of Geoff.

While Yasmeen waits to hear her fate at the bail hearing, with Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) representing her, Alya is fighting the good fight back home, trying to clear her name and blacken Geoff’s with the truth of what he had been doing.

As she tells Sally (Sally Dynevor) that Geoff has been cruel and abusive to Yasmeen throughout their marriage and that her nan is terrified of him, Sally is torn as this is Tim’s (Joe Duttine) father and he is finding it inconceivable.

Of course, Alya has clocked on to Geoff’s manipulative and sinister side long ago and often warned Yasmeen that he wasn’t right for her and he was taking advantage. But can she actually prove her claims?

She knows about the chores Yasmeen was made to do and also about the way Geoff rationed his wife’s finances – and she even helped her secretly pack up her belongings to try and escape him.

But with others unwilling to believe that Geoff was capable of abusing or controlling Yasmeen, will Alya’s efforts end up in vain?

And is Yasmeen going to prison simply for protecting herself against a seriously dangerous narcissist?
