Piers Morgan swapped the Good Morning Britain studio for the This Morning sofa on Monday as he joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the ITV daytime show.
The outspoken presenter, 55, appeared on This Morning to promote his new book Wake Up and conversation quickly turned to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's handling of the coronavirus crisis.
Piers said: "I remember at one time in April when hundreds of health care workers were dying on the front line of this war and we didn't give them enough protective equipment.
"We didn't take care of them. We sent 25,000 old people from hospitals back into care homes.
"Many have Covid that weren't tested. These were bordering on crimes going on and I was angry about it.
"I knew friends of mine that were losing their friends in care homes – three actually."
It has been almost 200 days since a government minster appeared on Good Morning Britain and Phillip wondered the reason bending the boycott.
Referring to his previous chats with MPs on the ITV breakfast show, Phillip asked Piers: "Do you think you were too angry?"
Piers exclaimed: "No! If anything I wasn't angry enough.
"Look at where we got to, the fact that this country has the worst death toll in the whole of Europe.
"It's supposed to have one of the best health care systems."
He continued: "Worst death toll, worst economic meltdown in Europe. These are shameful statistics for the sixth biggest economy in the world! It's been an outrage.
"And what worries me now is that we're stumbling into the same mistakes we made back in March, April and I think it's going to have the same catastrophic effect."
Piers later congratulated Phil on his book being third on the bestsellers list, calling it "brave".
However, Piers, whose book is currently at number six in the charts, joked: "The season isn't over yet."
A confused Holly quickly pointed out that bosses had extended the sofa because Piers was in the studio at the start of the interview.
The ITV star joked: "We'll definitely be keeping our distance. Look how big our sofa is today."
Joking about the extra-long sofa, Phillip added: "We are in Shepherd's Bush and Piers is in Hammersmith."
