Penny Lancaster talks Rod Stewarts fears as she completes first police shift

Penny Lancaster, 50, opened up about joining the police force and how it has affected her superstar husband Rod Stewart.

The blonde model explained that she was determined to become a working member of the police, despite knowing she could face turbulent times on the beat.

During a guest appearance on Tuesday's Loose Women, Penny said: "He was anxious of course.

"Like anyone out on duty, we are putting our lives at risk but for a good cause.

"I said don't worry as soon as I am back at the station I will call.

"To be accepted as one of the police officers was a real moment."

The starlet added: "Rod is still the rock star I met but he's seen a lot of change in myself.

"From turning into a mother of two and then changing career to be a police officer.

"I couldn't have gone ahead with that unless I had his support."

Recalling her first time on the job, she continued: "I was in my full armour [protective uniform] with another colleague as you work in pairs.

"For the first 18 months you are with a colleague.

"It wasn't too active out there but the importance is to have that presence and to engage with the public.

"I was excited but terrified at the same time. But going out there and getting the first duty out the way, I am gaining more confidence.

"It is about keeping that positive presence on the streets.

"So many people came up us – not me Penny but us the police – and said thank you for being out here and walking around Tower Bridge."

Due to the nature of the police uniform, Penny went on to admit she was left aching under the weight.

She said: "It is heavy.

"I got sore don m love handles it is really heavy but I got really fit for the mission.

"You have to make sure you can do the bleep test to a particular level."
