DIY SOS host Nick Knowles has paid tribute to a star who tragically died after his episode of the show aired.
The first episode in this series focused on Darren Hudson and his son Oliver, who was severely disabled.
Oliver was diagnosed with a degenerative spinal condition in 2017, which left him unable to walk.
On the show, Darren explained that he had been sharing Oliver’s room downstairs in his house after his wife tragically died months earlier.
Nick and team were brought on board to transform Darren’s house, which he also shared with his other son Harvey and step-son Mike.
However, following the programme, viewers were left heartbroken when Nick revealed that Oliver had sadly died.
‘We @DIYSOS send condolences to Darren & family on the sad passing of wonderful Ollie who is missed & was so loved,’ he wrote, with the show’s official Twitter sharing a similar message.
One viewer responded: ‘Inspirational family, each and every one of them. Awful news, RIP young man Ollie.’
‘I’ve never felt more heartbreak for a family than I have just watching that episode then reading that tweet. God bless,’ another added.
One more said: ‘Oh my goodness how terribly sad – they’ve all been through so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
‘Absolutely love the programme, gets me every time but is so reassuring particularly at the moment to see communities working together to help others.’
During the episode, Darren was left in tears at the community pulling together to support him and his family.
‘Not only have you given us a beautiful house and garden for today, you’ve sort of future-proofed our lives for us really,’ he told them.
‘The love and thought that has gone into it is brilliant, thank you so, so much.’
