Money Heist will be returning with its fifth and final season on Netflix later this year as viewers find out how the show finally ends. Ahead of its release, Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what to expect and what will happen next in the show.

When will Money Heist season 5 be released?

Fans will be pleased to learn Money Heist season five has officially been confirmed.

However, viewers of the hit show have also been dealt a devastating update about the future as showrunners revealed on July 31 that season 5 would be the last outing.

Netflix confirmed the upcoming series will be the “fifth and final part of La Casa de Papel”.

The final outing will be split into two parts, with the first part airing on September 3.

The second outing will be released on December 3, bringing the story to a close.

Fans were left waiting for 21 months before season three was finally released on Netflix in July 2019 with season four following nine months later in April 2020.

Both seasons one and two as well as three and four were filmed back-to-back which is why they were released close to each other.

Who is in the cast of Money Heist season 5?

Most of the main heist members are expected to be back for season five of the Spanish drama.

This is epxetced to include Tokyo (played by Úrsula Corberó), Professor (Álvaro Morte), Lisbon (Itziar Ituño), Rio (Miguel Herrán), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Stockholm (Esther Acebo), Palermo (Rodrigo De la Serna), Helsinki (Darko Peric), Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian) and Marsella (Luka Peros).

As well as this, characters like Arturo (Enrique Arce), Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), Manila (Belen Cuesta) and Gandia (Jose Manuel Poga) are all expected to return after their storylines ended on slight cliffhangers.

There has been no confirmation yet about whether Berlin (Pedro Alonso) will also return in flashbacks again in the new season but it’s likely he will be.

One character who won’t be returning, however, is Nairobi (Alba Flores) who was killed off in season four.

Some of the stars have already been confirming their return on Instagram with new images.

There are also some new cast members joining the show in unconfirmed roles – Sense8 star Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado.

Netflix has also released the first images of Criado with Berlin, which seem to suggest he might be part of the gang.

What will happen in Money Heist season 5?

WARNING: This section contains spoilers for Money Heist season 4.

There have been no plot details released yet for Money Heist season five has only just been confirmed.

However, Pina has teased there will be a war coming in the final outing in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

He said: “We are moving from a chess game – a mere intellectual strategy – to a war strategy: attack and contention.

“Adrenaline is within Money Heist’s DNA. Every thirty seconds things take place and disrupt the characters, a turn of the screw to the action.

“The adrenaline mixed with feelings arising from absolutely complex, magnetic, unforeseeable characters will continue until the end of the heist to the Bank of Spain.

“However, the gang will now be pushed into irreversible situations, into a wild war. It is the most epic part of all the parts we’ve shot.”

As well as this, based on the end of season four, it seems like the new season will follow the heist members as they try to escape from the Bank of Spain.

In the final episode, Lisbon was reunited with the team inside the bank while Gandia was knocked unconscious.

As well as this, the show will have to deal with the massive cliffhanger left at the end of season four when Sierra found the Professor’s hideout.

In the final few moments, she held a gun to his head and said “checkmate” before the series cut to black.

Therefore, viewers will be desperate to know what will happen next to the beloved Professor.

There are some theories Sierra might kill the Professor as an act of revenge for Berlin.
