‘Lucifans’ were as keen as ever to see the series make its dramatic return, as season four’s dramatic finale teased a hellbound adventure with a gripping cliffhanger.
Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) returned to claim back his Hellish throne to keep demonic forces at bay, whilst Chloe Decker (Lauren German) remains on Earth.
Season five has hinted at even more Deckerstar drama, as well as Lucifer finally meeting his father, God (newcomer Dennis Haysbert) and a film noir-inspired musical episode.
Contract negotiations between Tom Ellis and Warner Bros Television have reportedly come to an end, meaning it’s likely season five will mark an end to the popular fantasy drama.

With that in mind, the hype for Lucifer’s return has never been higher, though the current situation with COVID-19 has meant Warner Bros has yet to finish filming the season finale.
Fans of the show have been calling for updates on Twitter, namely by asking showrunner Ildy Modrovich for details.
Ildy was finally able to give fans an update on season five when she confirmed the announcement for the new instalment’s release date would be coming very soon.
On May 21st she revealed: “I hope I don’t get in trouble saying… the premiere date is coming SOON!!! Like… soon soon.”
The showrunner, as well as Lucifer producer Chris Rafferty, had previously confirmed Netflix was keeping any release date news close to the chest.
Thankfully, her recent tweet assured fans they won’t have to wait much longer for the updates on season five everyone has been waiting for.
Responding to Ildy Modrovich’s tweet, some fans suggested the series could be returning as early as this summer.
One replied: “Friday is my guess or even sometime next week. I’m saying it will be in June or July.”

When one of her followers asked for updates on May 13th, she responded: “Hm… mostly sworn to secrecy. Mostly… Because I CAN tell you that ALL the episodes are SUPERSIZED. Between 50 and 60 mins each.”
Unfortunately, interactions between Lucifer’s crew and fans haven’t all been pleasant, as co-star of the series Lesley-Ann Brandt was forced to issue a warning for viewers to remain patient as they wait for season five.
The star tweeted: “Dude. We are in a global pandemic. Seriously. Can you guys just understand that we don’t know a release date because the world is upside down right now?”

Thankfully, most ‘Lucifans’ are remaining civil and are eagerly awaiting the new announcement after Ildy Modrovich’s tease on Twitter.
Meanwhile, co-showrunner Joe Henderson has recently made fans ecstatic by releasing an exclusive behind-the-scenes photo of stars Tom Ellis and Lauren German on-set.
The pair’s idyllic backdrop has caused some fans to theorise the Lucifer team will be visiting the Garden of Eden at some point in season five.
