"I've got a text" is one of the phrases Love Island is known for but in Monday night's launch episode, viewers heard one Islander say "I've got a voice note" instead.
The new development might not sound like a huge difference, but the decision to stop delivering news to the Islanders via text has left fans of the hit ITV2 show divided.
As the opening episode of the 2021 series drew to a close, Love Island bosses threw the first bombshell into the mix as a new single joined the group – but little did they know, the real shock for fans would be the way her arrival was shared.
Toby Aromolaran told the group: "I've got a text you know… I've got a voice note."
He then played the voice note for the others, as new girl Chloe Burrows said: "Hey boys, how are you? Chloe here, I've just arrived and I'm out the front of the villa.
"I'd like to take you all on a date, but I'll let you guys decide who wants to come and join me. Hopefully I'll see you soon."
In past series, the message would have come via text and some of the Love Island faithful were not at all sure how they felt about the tech changing.
One person tweeted: “i’ve got a voice note” ?????? WTF IS THIS. WHERE’S THE “i’ve got a text!!”
Someone else added: "How awkward must it have been to record that voice note."
Many fans also pointed out that "I've got a voice note" doesn't exactly have the same ring to it as the old catchphrase.
One tweeted: "'I’ve got a voice note' you got a what…"
Someone else agreed: “'I’ve got a voice note' doesn’t sound right AT ALL."
However, another viewer added: "A voice note??? The budget has gone UP."
Last night's Love Island series opener was one of the raunchiest so far as couples had to play a game of dares that included long kisses, sucking each other's toes and licking ear lobes.
Viewers spotted Jake Cornish, who'd admitted to having a foot fetish, filming the toe sucking on his phone before hearing the bombshell news that Chloe was outside the villa.
So far there are five couples in the villa – but all that could change after Chloe's arrival.
