Emmerdale spoilers: Is Tracy Shankley suffering from post partum depression?

Emmerdale fans have been left deeply concerned by Tracy Shankley’s (Amy Walsh) struggles with baby Frankie of late – as she has been exhausted, emotional and snappy.

A later incident saw a panicked Tracy accidentally let go of Frankie’s pram as it rolled away.

Could she be struggling from postpartum depression as her anxiety increases?

Viewers have certainly expressed their concerns for Tracy but she has yet to receive adequate support on screen – and things are only going to get worse for the new mum as she doubts her abilities as a mum and desperately fears that Frankie will come to harm.

Father of Frankie Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) has noticed Tracy’s change in mood but doesn’t seem to realise that things are getting serious and she needs much more support.

Postnatal depression is a type of depression that many parents experience after having a baby.

It’s a common problem, affecting more than 1 in every 10 women within a year of giving birth. It can also affect fathers and partners.

Signs that you or someone is suffering include a persistent feeling of sadness and low mood, lack of enjoyment and loss of interest in the wider world, lack of energy and feeling tired all the time ,trouble sleeping at night and feeling sleepy during the day.

Sufferers may also experience difficulty bonding with their baby, withdrawing from contact with other people, problems concentrating and making decisions and frightening thoughts – for example, about hurting their baby.

Many women do not realise they have postnatal depression, because it can develop gradually.
