EastEnders have announced that despite cutting back the broadcast of episodes to just two a week, the BBC soap will go off air until filming resumes once it is safe to do so. Instead, viewers will et the chance to see interviews from the cast and relive unforgettable moments from the show’s history.

The beloved soap will stop airing after June 16’s instalment comes to a close.

Instead of getting their fix of Albert Square drama, viewers will get a chance to look behind-the-scenes in a series of interviews.

In EastEnder: Secrets from the Square will see Stacey Dooley sit down each week in Ian Beale’s restaurant to chat to two different members of the cast.

The cast members will open up about their character, their experience on set and much-loved storylines.

The show explained Stacey will sit in Walford East to tease what is to come when the soap returns and show a sneak peek behind-the-scenes at the production.

Amongst those chatting to the former Strictly Come Dancing champion will be Letitia Dean, Adam Woodyatt, Diane Parish, Tameka Empson, Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday evenings, viewers will be given a chance to watch an iconic episode from the BBC soap’s history.

Amongst those episodes will be the two-hander between Den and Angie, Sharongate and the explosive reveal of Max Branning and Stacey Slater’s affair.

Stacey said of the opportunity to step on the EastEnders set: ““I’m delighted to be hosting Secret From The Square.

“I grew up watching EastEnders, so walking on to Albert Square was a surreal experience as well as taking a trip down memory lane and interviewing some of the legends of Walford has been great, I’ve loved every minute of it!”

Meanwhile, executive producer Jon Sen said he is “thrilled” EastEnders can continue in some way for fans of the long-running soap.

He explained: “Although the drama from Albert Square will be off our screens for a short time, we are thrilled that

fans will have a unique opportunity to see from the cast themselves just what it is like to be part of EastEnders when they see Secrets From The Square.

“As the cast look back – as well as forward – we can relive some of their most memorable moments and to add a selection of iconic episodes into the mix means viewers will be able to get their regular Walford fix until the drama returns.”
