EastEnders has shared an important video featuring cast members old and new.

The video in question is a mash-up of sorts — featuring faces from the past in addition to those from the present — using dialogue and clips from various episodes broadcast over the years in order to give the viewers a message.

The message is to reiterate the importance of following the government guidance amid the Coronavirus lockdown, asking viewers to stay at home and support the NHS.

EastEnders was one of several serial dramas which were forced to suspend production amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

In an effort to ensure the soap remains on our screens for as long as possible, weekly transmissions have been reduced from four to two.

A statement from a BBC spokesperson says: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update.

‘We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England. We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible.’

EastEnders continues Monday 13 April at 7:30pm on BBC One.
