Dom is the Amazon Prime Video original series by Brazilian filmmaker Breno Silveira. The story follows a police officer who has to confront and stop one of Brazil’s most notorious drug traffickers, who also happens to be his son. But is this series based on a true story?

Yes, Dom is inspired by true events, with the series following Pedro Dom (played by Gabriel Leone) and Victor Dantas (Flavio Tolezani).
The father and son pair both grew up in Rio de Janeiro surrounded by crime and drugs, but both took different paths in life.
Victor, the father, is a police officer that strives to rid the city of crime and cocaine while at the same time teaching his son to stay way from a life of crime.
Pedro, the son, sadly takes a different path in life, as he gets older he falls in with the wrong crowd, starting as a drug runner and working his was up to gang leader.

The story is told across two different time periods, one where Victor is just a young boy and the other is when his son is a gang leader.
It is set between the times of 1999-2005 and 1969-1986.
The series is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, June 4, 2021, and has been directed by Breno Silveira.
Silveira is a well-known Brazilian director, having just completed the series One Against All.
He is also known for directing films such as The Seamstress, Along the Way, Once Upon a Time, and Two Sons of San Francisco.
The series stars Pedro Dom (Gabriel Leone), Victor Dantas (Flavio Tolezani), young Victor (Filipe Braganca) and Jasmin (Raquel Villar).
The series is a Brazilian production, with the stars having worked in a number of high-profile projects from the country.
Tolezani recently starred in Kissing Game, The Other Side of Paradise, The Good Side of Life, and Verdades Secretas.
Leone also starred in Verdades Secretas, as well as Old River, Dark Days, and Land of the Strong.
Amazon Prime recently dropped the trailer for the upcoming series, which gave fans a few hints at what to expect in the new series.
In the trailer, Victor can be seen telling young Pedro in a prison: “Look where criminals end up, Pedro, either in the ground or here.”
Later in the trailer Victor asks Pedro what his name is, and he replies: “Pedro Dom is my name.”
The trailer already has over 80,000 views and has received an overwhelmingly positive reception by fans of the upcoming show.
Fans have taken to the comments of the trailer to share their excitement about the upcoming true-crime series.
