Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) are getting married this week in Coronation Street, and this video shows the moment Paul walks down the aisle.
Paul is supported by Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) during this wonderful moment, as the beloved character’s motor neurone disease now impacts his ability to walk unaided.
Bernie and Gemma help Paul onto the stool opposite Billy, who is watching his partner with a huge smile and tears in his eyes.
He grabs Paul’s hands and says hello, ready to tie the knot.
Honestly, we’re crying already.
The wedding will turn out to be a success but afterwards, Billy is rocked when Paul reveals he’s been keeping a secret.
Recently in Coronation Street, Paul invited Bernie, Todd (Gareth Pierce) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) for a chat and explained that he needed their help. The conversation happened after Billy tried to tell Paul that it didn’t matter they weren’t getting married in a church.
Could the secret be relating to this?
We also know that Paul is keeping another secret from Billy about assisted dying, despite telling him a few weeks ago that the subject was no longer on his mind. But could he really tell Billy about his plan, hours after they tie the knot?
‘I think he knows Billy very well now and Paul knows that Billy’s downplaying how upset he is about not being able to get married in a church’, Peter Ash told us.
‘Shelly’s death is something that brings out Paul’s faith. At the funeral he kind of has a spiritual moment. Wanting to get married in a church is a bit more of a priority now for Paul, but he wants to do it mainly for Billy.
‘He knows Billy has devoted his life to the church and he knows that’s where he wants to get married. So it’s a bit disappointing that they can’t, and there can’t be any religious music and all those rules that go around it. Billy’s downplaying it but Paul knows he really is a bit upset that they can’t have any of that at the wedding.’
