Coronation Street stars daughter announced as new Love Islander set to enter villa

ITV have today announced the new Love Island line-up, with musical theatre performer and social media content creator Molly Marsh among the news singletons announced.

The 21-year-old has appeared on stage in pantomime and already boasts a considerable Instagram following of 25.6k, whilst her mum, Janet Marsh, is a recognised TV actress, having worked on a number of shows, including popular soap Coronation Street.

Janet has appeared in multiple roles in the long-running soap, appearing first as a nurse in 2005. She later returned to the cobbles as a receptionist at the Scott-Roe Clinic in March 2008 and then again as an ITU nurse in 2009.

Molly, who is following in her mother's footsteps and turning her talents to TV, was previously rumoured to have been signed up for the upcoming Love Island, with ITV confirming this today.

Sharing why she wanted to join the show, the actress said: "I think it’s ideal timing and the perfect way to find someone.

"I don’t go out and party and I don’t use dating apps, I’m actually quite old-fashioned, so there’s no better way to meet someone than by going into a Villa in the sun with the potential ‘one’ in there."

Asked about her claim to fame, Molly revealed that she's already been inside the Love Island villa, as she explained: "With my job being in social media, I’ve had some amazing opportunities to go on press trips and I’ve actually been out to the Love Island Villas in Mallorca and South Africa.

"Having the experience to walk around both was amazing but to now actually live in the Villa is going to be incredible."

And while her mum may also be an actress, the mother-daughter duo appear to still have a rather down-to-earth life, as Molly reveals they actually live on a farm.

"I live on a farm with my mum, dad, sister, grandma, grandad, aunty, uncle, cousin, cousin’s husband, their baby and chicken" she explained.

Ahead of the confirmation that Molly would be joining the Love Island villa this year, a source told The Sun: "Molly was scouted after visiting the villa in South Africa earlier this year. She was on the tour as an invited guest when she caught the eyes of producers.

"Molly made it clear she would love to be a part of Love Island and she was told to audition. After going through the process, she's now a shoo-in to fly to Mallorca later this month.

"She is a star on the rise and comes from a showbiz family — her mum Janet even had small roles on Coronation Street and Still Open All Hours. Molly has made it clear she's got what it takes to make a bang and ITV love her."

Molly will be joined in the villa by beautician Ruchee Gurung and semi-professional footballer Tyrique Hyde among others.

Love Island starts at 9pm Monday 5th June on ITV2 and ITVX.
