Avengers Endgame brought all of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe characters to the front line to save the universe from Thanos (played by Josh Brolin). While it was certainly an incredible display of superhero stardom, fans were still devastated to see the end of the line for both Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man / Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr).
However, they may not be the only superheroes due to leave the ongoing stories in the near future.
As the Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) were up against some big battles in the film, they were certainly at risk.
Since Avengers Endgame a number of the heroes have now taken up the mantle of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, replacing those who have now retired.
And, unfortunately for her fans, one of the strongest heroes could be set to bow out of the story in an unexpected turn of events.
Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) shot onto screen in her titular film, where she displayed her own heroics.
Shortly thereafter Captain Marvel was seen in Avengers Endgame, where she took on Thanos directly.
Her story may not last long, though, as the comic book origins of Mar-Vell – the original Captain Marvel – ended quite soon after joining the Avengers.
Of course, the MCU Mar-Vell died in Captain Marvel, completing her story, but in the comic books Mar-Vell died protecting the universe.
Battling against the Skrulls, Mar-Vell took the brunt of an alien nerve gas attack.
Although he saved everyone involved in the attack, he eventually went back to Earth to continue his work – but tragedy awaited him.
When he returned it was revealed he harboured some side effects from the gas which ultimately killed him off.
This was truly a sad time for comic book lovers, and it would be even more sad if it occurred on screen.
Considering Captain Marvel has only just arrived on screen, it would be premature to be discussing her death.

But as the characters are going to continue arriving and dying in the future, this could be one of the big storylines to come.
In the meantime, a new theory has been floating around online which suggests Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) was actually correct to hit Thanos at that pivotal moment.
A fan on Reddit recently argued: “Doctor Strange saw all 14,000,605 outcomes of the battle and only foresaw one where the Avengers won.
“The fact that he didn’t stop Star-Lord from hitting Thanos already tells us this was part of the plan.
“But in what universe would stopping Spider-Man and Iron Man from getting the gauntlet be considered helpful?”
Considering this was part of the ultimate plan to kill Thanos off once and for all – could it have been the plan all along?
Otherwise, it was simply a misstep on Star-Lord’s side and perhaps made things a little worse.
