Since The X Factor officially left our screens for good, we’re having to get our show fix by looking back at some of the most memorable contestants from over the years, to see where they are and what they look like today.
Fans of the show will probably recall 2016 contestant Saara Aalto, who blew judges away with the power of her voice.
She ultimately placed second, losing the crown to Matt Terry and went on to star on Dancing on Ice in 2019, finishing in third place with her partner Hamish Gaman.
But what does the Finnish singer look like these days, you ask? Quite different, actually. While she had thick, shiny brunette hair in 2016 and in 2019, she now has pink tresses. She’s also given her look an edgy upgrade with an undercut on one side of her head.
The 34 year old has been rocking the pink since earlier this year, and gave fans an update in April on how and why she opted for the beauty overhaul.
“Here’s how this last year has changed my style (HUGE change‼️), I hope to inspire you to try something new as well,” she wrote. “I have ALWAYS had dark hair… but now it was time for something totally new.”
Saara also commented on her makeup, saying: “I have ALWAYS used a lot of eye make-up… but not anymore. I’m so used to seeing myself natural now… and I think I’m pretty cute like this.”
In June, Saara changed her look further when she added an undercut to one side of her head but kept the rest of her long tresses a peachy pink hue – something fans seemed to love.
“Love the new look, your hair colour goes amazing with your skin tone,” commented one.
Another said: “Your hair looks so beautiful!”
These days, the singer shares loved-up snaps of herself with her wife Meri Aalto, whom she wed in 2020. Saara is also a regular on stage, currently starring in We Will Rock You, the musical. Her grunge looks for the show, featuring pink dreadlocks and neon eye makeup, have also proved popular with Instagram fans.
It seems for Saara the only way was up!
