Good Housekeeping has this week published its findings from its annual Food Awards. The magazine carries out a yearly survey to name the UK’s favourite supermarket and more.

The UK’s Big Four supermarkets have missed out on being named the country’s favourite supermarket.

Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s are Britain’s biggest supermarkets, but it seems discounters Lidl and Aldi are quickly catching up.

Aldi was this week named the country’s favourite supermarket.

The discount retailer also bagged the top spot for two other categories: Favourite Wine Retailer and Favourite Premium Supermarket Range.

Aldi won the Favourite Premium Supermarket Range category for its Specially Selected brand.

Additionally, the supermarket won Good Housekeeping’s Best Hot Cross Bun in its Easter taste tests.

Aldi was pitted against the UK’s other popular supermarkets and came out on top in the Favourite Supermarket category.

Iceland came runner-up.

Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer was the runner-up for the Favourite Premium Supermarket Range category.

Its Premium range is called Our Best Ever.

Aldi’s Specially Selected range includes everything from Creamy Luxury Fish Pie to Melton Mowbray Pork Pie.

The supermarket is currently the UK’s fifth biggest supermarket, but it is expected to grow in coming years.

Aldi has just opened its 900th store in the UK but it announced last week it is looking for hundreds of new sites in order to further expand across the country.

The supermarket is looking for 400 sites in England, 30 in Wales, and 20 in Scotland.

Aldi said the locations must be in city centres or at the edge of centres.

They must also be around 1.5 acres and able to accommodate a 20,00 sq ft store.

Aldi won Good Housekeeping’s Favourite Supermarket category after thousands of Britons responded to the question: “Which supermarket goes above and beyond in terms of service, value and product variety to make your weekly shop easier?”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “We’re thrilled to have received such positive results in the Good Housekeeping Food Awards.

“We are always striving to deliver the highest quality products at the best possible price for our shoppers and we’re immensely proud that we have been recognised by customers for our innovative and affordable product range.”

Ms Ashfield added: “We’re particularly honoured to see the quality of our Specially Selected range acknowledged so highly with our ‘Favourite Premium Supermarket Range win.”
