Shoppers are claiming that Victoria Beckham has “lost her mind” after discovering that her clothing brand is selling a pair of plain black leggings with a whopping price tag of £490.
It all started when the Instagram account @theshadeborough shared the news with its 664K followers and asked its fans: “Residents, would you spend this much on a pair of leggings?”
The pop star-turned-designer has come under blows in the comment section, with many users left in shock over the price point.
“She lost her mind,” one fan writes.
“I’ll stick to New look or Primark thanks,” another says.
“£490!!! It better be gold fabric,” a third comments, while a fourth adds: “Those leggings best be able to help me walk on water.”
The announcement comes shortly after it was revealed that Victoria had lost millions of pounds through her fashion label. Last year, it was reported that the business suffered losses of £16.6 million in 2020 alone – and fans were quick to point this out.
“She’s really trying to pay for them debts boy,” one person says.
“This is why she’s going bankrupt. That’s madness,” another writes.
A third adds: “No wonder why her company’s losing money.”
The item currently facing criticism is the Compact Shine High Waisted Legging in Black, £490 here, which is described on the website as “practical” with “delicate yarns.”
Despite the higher price point, the leggings do fit in with current trends, featuring a stirrup design, a high-waisted fit and a shine finish.
Some fans in the comment section have defended the star, with one person writing: “I would too if I had her level of influence.”
“Well Balenciaga be selling lost property school shoes for £600+ so what’s the difference,” another says.
“People would still buy it though, even if it is £490. She knows her market, it’s not for everyone to buy,” a third adds.
If, like many of us, you can’t fork out almost £500 for a pair of leggings, there’s some great alternatives on the high street currently that will give you a similar look for much less.
Some great options include Stradviarius’ Legging With Stirrup Detail, £19.99 here, or H&M’s Crease-Front Stirrup Leggings, £17.99 here.
Both designs feature a high-waisted fit, just like the expensive original, with a trendy stirrup feature and a flattering sewn-in crease down the front section. The bargain buys will also save you over £470 – what’s not to love?
