Sean "Diddy" Combs To Host 2022 Billboard Music Awards

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to host and executive produce the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, exactly 25 years after he took home his first trophy at the awards show in 1997 for his multi-platinum album No Way Out.

“This will be unlike any awards show — I’m bringing the love and setting the frequency at an all-time high,” said two-time BBMA winner Combs in a statement via Billboard. “The Billboard Music Awards truly represent the artists and where music is today, so I’m excited to curate the biggest live performances and surprises. The world has to tune in to see.”

The multi-hyphenate creative and public figure will lead the live event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 15 on NBC. The Billboard Music Awards will also stream live on Peacock.

As for this year’s nominations, The Weeknd leads the roster with a total of 17 nods, followed by Doja Cat, who is up for 14 awards. Both artists are in the running for top artist, alongside Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift.

Rodrigo is also nominated for best new artist, a trophy which she took home at this year’s Grammys, alongside Giveon, Masked Wolf, Pooh Shiesty and The Kid LAROI. Meanwhile, Kanye West has received several nominations in the Christian and gospel categories.

Winners at this year’s ceremony will be chosen “based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Luminate (formerly MRC Data),” according to Billboard.
