Princess Dianas former chef reveals what she ate every day – from baked beans to beetroot soup

The late Princess Diana is believed to have championed a low-carb and low-fat diet.

In 2016, a former royal chef discussed Diana’s eating habits with the publication, after having served the family for over 15 years.

Darren McGrady opened up on some of the main foods Princess Diana loved to eat. Let’s take a look…

What did Princess Diana eat every day?

According to chef Darren, Princess Diana enjoyed eating stuffed peppers, and on the sweet side of things she’d eat bread and butter pudding.

The chef even remembers that when he made bread and butter pudding, Princess Diana would come in and eat the raisins off the top.

He also recalled that she’d eat red meat on special occasions, and she asked for roast lamp while hosting Clint Eastwood for dinner.

“She'd tell me: ‘You take care of the fats, I’ll take care of the carbs at the gym,’” he told the MailOnline.

Darren also told fans that she’d enjoy Heinz baked beans every morning, and he said on his YouTube: “I used to cook beans for breakfast at Buckingham Palace and Princess Diana loved them. She'd actually eat a whole tin of beans for breakfast.

"Sounds crazy but when you think about it, there's only seven grams of sugar in the English style baked beans, they're rich in protein, high in fibre, very low in fat.

“So they're perfect for her to eat that really big carb boost ready for going to the gym and doing a workout.”

An interview with the Saturday Evening Post in 1989 also revealed that Diana would enjoy grapefruit, muesli and a piece of toast in the morning.

For dinner, it seems Diana used to like Ukrainian beetroot soup with this fact being unveiled after a care home in Johannesburg, South Africa asked the members of the royal family for their favourite recipes for a cookbook.

The soup is made using beetroot, natural yoghurt, onions, chicken stock, milk, sour cream and salt and pepper.

It’s believed another favourite dish of Princess Diana’s was an egg suzette, which is when a baked potato is scooped out, with wilted spinach at the bottom and a poached egg on the top, with hollandaise sauce added.

Chef Darren admitted Diana was “terrible” in the kitchen, but he said she had an appreciation for good food.
