When One Direction split up in 2015 their fans were devastated. Exactly a year after Zayn Malik left the band he released his debut solo album, Mind of Mine. The rest of the team followed suit and began releasing their own solo albums. When Liam dropped his first record, LP1, in December 2019, he made some interesting comments about the future of 1D.
The singer’s star-studded album included features from some enormous names in the music industry.
Not only had Liam collaborated with Cheat Codes, but he also released some songs involving the likes of Rita Ora, Jonas Blue and Zedd.
During the promotional tour of his first album, Liam was asked about when 1D would potentially be getting back together.
He responded: “I think at some point we will get back together. I think we will for sure.”
Liam mused: “I don’t know when that is yet, but all I know is that there are at least two years because everyone’s released new music and you have to go and promo.”
He reiterated: “There are at least two years.”
Considering the album’s release was in 2019, two years later would have been 2021.
He also teased a reunion for the band in recent weeks.
Niall Horan reflects on time in One Direction with Dermot O’Leary
Liam said: “[He is] doing a song for a film at the moment, which kind of came about by surprise.
“We have been working on something with some old friends of mine, actually. I can’t even tell you about who they are either.”
He added: “I know them from a while ago since I was 17. They were the first people that One Direction worked with, actually.”
The 27-year-old also joked that he would love to work with his former pals once again.
Liam said on Instagram Live: “I’d love to do a collaboration with Niall and Zayn and Harry and Louis.
“Actually they’re all here behind this curtain! No, they’re not really. We could’ve put them in virtually, though.”
He keeps joking about a reunion but the bookies have recently slashed the odds on 1D getting back together soon.
Ladbrokes recently gave 1/4 odds on the band reuniting this year.
Ladbrokes’ Jessica O’Reilly said: “It looks like One Direction fans will finally get their wish this year and the boys will be back on stage together.”
1D fans have recently pointed at Louis Tomlinson’s Twitter account as evidence of an upcoming reunion.
The singer referenced his X Factor days, saying: “11 years since my first audition! I had no idea on that day just how much would have changed between then and now.
“Thank you to everyone who’s been there for me along the way! We’re only just getting started!”Could this have been another clue to what is coming?
