KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV wants to face Georges St-Pierre as it was his “father’s dream fight”.
The undefeated UFC lightweight champion is set to return to the octagon this weekend to face interim title holder Justin Gaethje.
He has already signalled his intention to then go on and clash with the 39-year-old, who last fought three years ago when making Michael Bisping submit.
Khabib is still reeling from losing his father Abdulmanap, who died on July 3 aged 57, after suffering a heart attack and pneumonia following a positive test for Covid-19.
But he is pushing ahead to try and secure a dream bout against St-Pierre in honour of his dad.
He said: “Regarding Georges St-Pierre, that fight really inspires me.
“It was my father’s dream fight. But time passes, Georges St-Pierre will be 40 next year.
“I think he has to decide whether we’ll fight or not.”
Khabib added: “I want that fight.
“If I beat Justin Gaethje, then fight St-Pierre in April before Ramadan, that would be ideal.”
Khabib and his team are not alone in trying to make the dream match-up happen.
After talks with UFC president Dana White, he is also helping to persuade GSP to step back into the Octagon.
Khabib added: “Dana told me after this fight they’ll talk to St-Pierre.
“If he agrees, we’ll fight. Both I and the UFC want that to happen.”
