The British royal family has stayed silent on the latest interviews given by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. They didn’t wish him and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex a happy anniversary on social media. Now Harry’s older brother, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge appears to have subtly responded during a royal visit to Scotland.
Prince Harry’s ‘The Me You Can’t See’ premiered the same day Prince William embarked on a royal visit to Scotland
May 21, 2021, was a busy day for Harry and William. The Me You Can’t See began streaming on Apple TV+. The docuseries, which Harry co-created and executive produced with Oprah Winfrey, includes footage of the 36-year-old discussing his own mental health journey.
Clips of him are sprinkled throughout the program’s five episodes which also feature interviews with mental health experts and celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Glenn Close. Most notably, Harry called out the royal family for alleged “total silence or total neglect” when he and Meghan asked for help with the intense media scrutiny that often included racist claims.
The Duke of Sussex also recounted how a conversation with Meghan led him to therapy. According to CNN, he shared how he’d been “willing to drink” and “take drugs” in his 20s to numb feelings about Princess Diana’s death.
While Harry made headlines for The Me You Can’t See his older brother set off for Scotland. According to the royal family’s official website, William’s visit began on May 21, 2021. He carried out a number of royal engagements before being joined by his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge on May 24, 2021.
Prince William challenged Prince Harry’s recent comments while in Scotland
The Duke of Cambridge subtly responded to his brother’s most recent comments during his first few days in Scotland. According to Newsweek, he challenged Harry’s narrative while addressing the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
“My childhood was full of holidays having fun in the fresh air and swimming in lochs, family barbecues with my grandfather in command, and yes – the odd midge,” he said.
William continued: “I spent four very happy and formative years studying in St Andrews. The town and the students left me alone to get on with student life, allowing me to share their freedoms and their pubs.”
Meanwhile, the Duke of Sussex remembered growing up in the royal family differently. During a May 2021 interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Harry compared his royal life to The Truman Show. On The Me You Can’t See he shared that he has very clear memories of being chased by paparazzi with Diana and William.
“It was a puzzling life and, unfortunately, when I think about my mom the first thing that comes to mind is always the same one, over and over again: Strapped in the car, seatbelt across,” Harry told Oprah. “My brother in the car as well, and my mother driving and being chased by three, four, five mopeds with paparazzi on.”
Prince Harry and Prince William are set to reunite in July 2021
A statue of Diana is set to be unveiled on July 1, 2021, what would’ve been her 60th birthday. Commissioned by Harry and William, the brothers are set to be there at the unveiling.
However, Meghan may give birth to baby no. 2 around the same time meaning there’s a chance Harry could stay in California and skip the unveiling. There’s also the current state of the brothers’ relationship to consider, which has some wondering whether or not Harry will join William.
If the Duke of Sussex does attend, it will be his second public appearance with William since he and Meghan’s bombshell Oprah interview aired in March 2021. The brothers were both at the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in April 2021.
