Holly Willoughby reveals how she dyes her hair in step-by-step seven-minute tutorial: “I colour it all the time”

Holly Willoughby has come to our rescue, aiding those amongst us who are searching for ways to maintain our beauty routines, and our roots, as we self-isolate.

The This Morning presenter, 39, has clearly been experiencing the woes of roots peaking through and, in a bid to brighten up her iconic hair, has turned to Instagram to show her 6.5 million followers the secrets behind her glossy locks.

In a video titled ‘how I colour my hair,’ the mum-of-three wrote: “Tomorrow morning on @thismorning I know I will get an awful lot of questions asking how come I’ve managed to get my hair colour done whilst we are in lockdown (roots were getting out of control!).”

And, thinking there’s no time like the present, the star, whose video has been a hit with fans, continued: “I thought it’s a good opportunity to answer that question and a few others… Do I really use @garnieruk to tint my own hair and if so how do I do it?… Hope this helps if you are considering home hair colour for the first time … Always do a patch test and follow the instructions.”

For a long while, Holly has been the face of certain Garnier hair products, and in the recent video she gives fans a step-by-step look at how you can achieve her same colour using a home dye.

In the seven minute video, the 39 year old begins: “Hi, so this is weird. Here we are in lockdown and you might be the same as me, looking in the mirror going 'oh my goodness look' at this big dark stripe that’s coming down the top of my head.”

She continued: “As my kids keep telling me: ‘mummy you’re turning brunette again.’”

Holly then adds that she colours her hair “all the time” and that she does it at home as it saves time sitting in the salon.

Donning a white T-shirt with her blonde bob on show, Holly continued: “It’s so quick and easy and it doesn’t damage my hair. My hair has been in better condition since doing this as I’m not layering up tonnes and tonnes of highlights.

“I will go and get highlights, like, once in a blue moon just to break it up a bit but nine times out of ten this is the tint that I do.”

Holly then shows off a box of Garnier Nutrisse hair dye in shade ‘Natural Baby Blonde,’ which can be found in Superdrug for £5.79.

As Holly adds in the video, you should always do a patch test before using hair dye and follow instructions too.

The stunning star then goes on to show fans the contents of the box, including colour creme, gloves and more.

The candid video shows Holly completing the entire dyeing process from start to finish, as she adds: “I’m not going to do all over colour because I don’t like layering up the colour all the time."

The star, telling her fans she has a few greys at the back, explains: “This is my way of doing it, just to stress. This is how I do it and it works for me. My hair hasn’t fallen out yet.”

As Holly applies the dye to her roots she adds: “This is all a bit slap dash. I can almost hear you all screaming.”

Separating her hair into sections Holly runs the dye over all of the darker parts in her hair, before waiting the necessary time before washing it out.
