From washing make-up brushes to dog toys — get the most out of your dishwasher with these clever cleaning hacks – The Sun

BET you didn’t know, the dishwasher is cheap and easy for cleaning so much more than just plates, cutlery and glasses.

Yep, you can even stick in a scummy shower head, some kids’ and pets’ toys, make-up brushes and . . . silk flowers.

It saves on queuing at the shops for special cleaning products — and makes loading the dishwasher fun. Here’s some tips, with help from electrics firm Hisense . . .

SHOWER POWER: Popping that dirty shower head in the dishwasher can save on elbow grease and a specialist cleaner, which can cost around a tenner. Repeat every few months, for a sparkling-clean look.

TOY STORY: Some children’s and pets’ toys may be labelled as dish-washer safe. Infants’ rattles, plastic blocks, large plastic pegs, plastic shape- sorter pieces, and some bath toys can be placed on the washer’s top rack, to clean and sanitise. Set on a gentle cycle and pop smaller toys or parts in a mesh bag to avoid them dropping to the bottom and getting lost.

YOU COULDN’T MAKE IT UP: If you’re like me, at the moment you are probably not wearing as many cosmetics as usual. So why not give those make-up brushes a clean? They build up bacteria so should be sanitised every few weeks. Simply place them in the cutlery rack of your dishwasher and use a high-temperature setting to kill germs. It saves on buying electric brush-cleaners, such as those sold at for £29.99.

BLOOMING GREAT: If you have any silk flowers around your house, you will know just how easily they can gather dust on the mantelpiece and lose their sparkle. Well, it’s easy to revive them rather than replace, by just popping your blooms in the, yes, you guessed it. Just arrange them on the top rack of your dishwasher and set on a gentle cycle.
