Chef says we’re making BLT sarnies wrong – but some call his method ‘blasphemy’

Can you go wrong when whipping up a super simple BLT sandwich?

One chef thinks so – and he’s come up with a controversial way to make the sandwiches “taste better”.

In a recent episode of his podcast, David Chang spoke about the topic.

The founder of Momofuku noodle bar in New York, said you should pay close attention to the tomatoes you use.

Instead of picking the loveliest, juiciest tommies, you should apparently pick low quality or unripe ones instead.

He said: "I adore summer tomato season but think BLTs taste better with s***ty hothouse tomatoes than perfectly ripe summer ones. Less juicy, right acidity and texturally better in relation to iceberg lettuce and crisp bacon."

David’s theory makes sense – it can be unpleasant when juicy tomatoes make your sandwich go all soggy.

But despite this, some foodies disagreed with David’s theory and responded to him on social media.

According to the Mirror, one critic replied: "For a generic mass produced diner BLT sure, but it's possible to make a gourmet BLT with good tomatoes."

Another wrote: "One of the few things I have to disagree with you on."

And a third simply branded the opinion “blasphemy”.

It’s not the only controversial opinion that the professional cook has either.

David believes BLT sandwiches are a “snack” and shouldn’t be eaten as a main meal.

As many of us eat the sarnies for lunch, we’d have to disagree!
