A biopic on the late Whitney Houston is in development. Music producer Clive Davis has teamed up with the singer’s estate for the biopic, titled I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Anthony McCarten, whose has penned scripts for Darkest Hour and Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, is writing the script for I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Stella Meghie, who directed the romantic move The Photograph, will direct the biopic.
Pat Houston will produce the movie on behalf of the Houston Estate, along with Davis, Primary Wave Music’s Larry Mestel, Denis O’Sullivan and McCarten.
Houston is the most awarded female music artist of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide. She debuted with her self-titled first studio album in 1985.
“From all my personal and professional experience with Whitney from her late teenage years to her tragic premature death, I know the full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told,” Davis said in a statement.
He said McCarten’s script will finally reveal the “whole Whitney whose vocal genius deeply affected the world while she fiercely battled the demons that were to be her undoing.”
