Simon Rimmer thanks NHS for looking after dad

Simon Rimmer issued an apology as the presenter explained he is recovering from the “dreaded” Covid.

The Sunday Brunch presenter, 60, was inundated with messages of support as he shared he was still recovering from a recent illness.

Taking to Twitter today, he tweeted: “Sorry I’m not on @SundayBrunchC4 today. Just getting over dreaded Covid.”

The resident chef was swiftly inundated with messages of support as viewers offered their well wishes and hoped for a speedy recovery.

One person remarked: “Oh Noooo!! Get well soon Simon. You’re Missed. Also, we need you back asap.”

Another penned: “Get well soon,” while a third remarked: “Not the same without you – get well soon!”

A fourth wrote: “Oh no, hope you recover soon Simon!”

While another added: “Oh Simon, you were very very missed today. The show went a bit awol. Hope you feel better soon.”

The news comes after Miquita Oliver stepped in for Simon as she joined regular presenter Tim Lovejoy on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.

Viewers took to social media and questioned the presenter’s absence from the programme.

Opening the show, Tim explained that Simon was feeling “poorly” and another chef would be taking over in the kitchen.

Simon recently faced a family tragedy as he previously announced his dad had died.

Last month, he appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch and spoke fondly of the NHS and the staff members who assisted with his dad’s end of life care.

He said: “Yeah, unfortunately, my dad passed away last Thursday.

“I’ve always, always loved the NHS but every single person that was involved at the end of my dad’s life.

“Not just for him and the care that he got, but us as family, in his final hours. They were just amazing, they could not have been more supportive.

“Just a massive thank you, thank you, thank you, to everybody at Arrowe Park Hospital who really just made my dad’s final hours incredible. They really, really did,” he added.

Sunday Brunch airs next week on Channel 4 at 9.30.
