Lorraine Kelly, 61, has a hugely successful career, having been on our TV screens for a whole 37 years. And it was because of TV that she met her husband Steve Smith. But it wasn’t an easy process.

We were friends for a whole year before we finally got him, but it took a bit of work

The presenter and her daughter Rosie, recently appeared on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, where they discussed all things Celebrity Gogglebox.

But Lorraine also touched on her prestigious career and the processes she went thought in order to get to where she is today.

And while taking a walk back down memory lane, she recalled how she met Steve, who was actually her cameraman at the time.

They met on TV-am and the journalist reported in a previous interview that from the first moment she saw him she knew he was the one.

But she also admitted it “took a bit of work” before they eventually hit it off romantically.

While chatting to Kate about where she would be now if she had decided to go to university instead of joining her local newspaper, she exclaimed: “You just don’t know!

“And then meeting my husband Steve, he was my cameraman for years and years.

“We were friends for a whole year before I finally got him, but it took a bit of work,” she laughed.

“But we got there!”

Going into more detail about the run up to becoming official, Lorraine explained they had to really think things through before they committed to anything.

“It was one of those things where you don’t go into a relationship like that without really thinking about he ramifications if it doesn’t work,” she said.

“Because that makes it awkward for everybody.

“Especially if you’re a really tight-knit team.”

She added: “We did have to think about that because it could have been really, really awkward.

“But when you know, you know and you think, ‘It’s going to be fine!'” she beamed.

And fine it was, as the pair went on to have Rosie, who was born two years after the pair tied the knot in 1992.

Chatting about the build-up to their relationship in a past interview, the 61-year-old recalled first laying eyes on Steve.

She quipped: “He walked into the TV-am office 28 years ago where I was working as a reporter and he was part of the crew, and I thought, ‘That’ll do, I’m having that.'”

“It all happened rather quickly when we had to do a shoot on location at Glencoe.

“We were staying in a tiny hotel in the middle of nowhere and I got him incredibly drunk on tequila before making my move.”

She added, laughing: “”The way I remember it is that I leapt on him like a ninja and he had absolutely no defence!”
