Former Top Gear host James May took to Twitter yesterday on what he described as the “rubbishest” Bank Holiday. The Grand Tour presenter was swiftly reminded of a past incident, which he had completely forgotten about.

Current Top Gear star Chris Harris recalled how both he and James had attended the same car launch a few years ago.

He said that the 58-year-old television presenter had asked a rather awkward question at the Ford Galaxy presentation.

The query reportedly did not impress the bosses at the brand one bit.

James revealed that he had put the incident out of his mind, and joked that he’d been “proper t**t” at the event.

In view of his 3.1 million followers, car enthusiast James tweeted: “This is the rubbishest Bank Holiday Monday ever.”

Chris was quick to rely with his amusing anecdote.

“Would it be improved if I reminded you of the Ford Galaxy Facelift launch when, after a lengthy presentation about the new Diesel engine, you raised your hand to ask the question (somehow with a straight face) ‘Will there be a diesel?’

“And the Ford boss wasn’t very happy.”

“I’d forgotten that. I was a proper t**t, wasn’t I?” James replied.

Many took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the exchange.

“Seeing you guys tweet each other makes me want to see you two in a car related program or even better.. the original trio and current trio do a Top Gear episode!

“Unfortunately will never happen but it would be a dream! Both trio’s are simply amazing,”(sic) one Top Gear fan wrote.

“Agreed. Harris is a fantastic host.

“I can watch him and his enthusiasm and enjoy TG again,” another added.

A third remarked: “It’s OK to enjoy TG and GT, nobody could replicate Hammond, May and Clarkson, it was what it was, seeing them interact makes me happy too.”

“This is the best thread ever, TG’s most pragmatic and humble hosts,” another added.

James joined the cast of BBC’s Top Gear in 2003 alongside Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, who had launched the car programme the previous year.

The trio hosted the show together for 12 years until 2015.

They now front The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, while Chris fronts Top Gear alongside Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff.

Both had worked on motoring shows before landing the presenting gig.
