Actress Lisa Riley is perhaps one of Emmerdale’s best-loved names, known for always wearing a smile. However, the star who is known for playing Mandy Dingle has overcome heartbreaking struggles in the past.

Lisa, 45, who recently signed for an extra year on ITV’s Emmerdale, has previously spoken about her battle with alcohol.
The Bury-born actress was left heartbroken when her beloved mum, Cath, died in 2012 following a breast cancer battle.
The actress has also documented her struggles with becoming a mother with her partner, Al, who chooses to remain out of the public eye.
Now, the much-loved star is completely teetotal and has taken to social media to share her wonderful news.
In view of her 126,300 Twitter followers, Lisa exclaimed: “CELEBRATING…CELEBRATE….CELBRATION (sic).”
She continued: “SIX YEARS SOBER TODAY.
“Reasons to feel so happy and very proud!
“I chose a life I wanted to live, never for one single second have I looked back.”
Lisa went on to say: “Here’s to many more, where everything makes sense, and MOSTLY I’m so bloody happy!! #sober.”
Her post that has since been liked over 900 times was soon flooded with supporting messages.
Emmerdale co-star, Simon Lennon who plays Ben Tucker penned: “Congrats, Lisa!!”
While one fan added: “Aw congrats Lisa, an amazing achievement! You should definitely be so proud! I lost my papa and uncle to alcoholism, it’s heartbreaking to see a loved one go like that. I admire that you share your story, it will no doubt help others to see that it’s possible to turn it around.”

“Congratulations & well done, couldn’t of been easy, keep up the good work,” said a third.
Before a fourth commented: “You should be proud of yourself Lisa you have obviously put in the hard work you are glowing with positivity congratulations, Lisa.”
“Excellent, well done you, no easy task,” tweeted Angie Best.
Lisa recently revealed that re-joining Emmerdale in 2019 changed her life for the better following an 18-year absence.
“I honestly still pinch myself that I get to play such an amazing character as Mandy,” she told The Mirror.
Lisa added: “I can’t put into words how much I love it, I’ve just re-signed my contract and I have no plans to leave.
“It’s nice to know that I get loads of offers from other dramas but I am happy to say no at the moment because I am super, super happy.”
She gushed: “I have a job I adore and have the most amazing friends and family.”
