Adele has smashed the UK charts and broken multiple records after releasing single Easy on Me on Friday 15 October.
Proving yet again why she is considered a spearheading artist, the singer reached Number 1 in the UK singles charts after her song was streamed 24 million times achieving a world record, as confirmed by the Official Charts Company.
This surpasses the previous streaming record in a week held by Ariana Grande, when she released single 7 Rings back in January of 2019.
A major hit for the American artist, the song reached 16.9 million streams – a considerable way off from Adele’s extraordinary number.
Another impressive figure reached by the singer is in attachment to her latest music video accompanying her new single, both released six years after Adele’s last album, 25, in 2015.
Within just a week, the 33 year old has achieved over 100 million views for her visuals which see the singer filmed in black and white driving across a dirt road, before switching to colour as she sits singing in a windswept house.
“Absolutely amazing song!! She has so much talent and this song will touch your heart,” commented one viewer.
“From the first second you hear this song it's just pure Adele!” wrote another. “I love her voice. Happy you're back – you're so beautiful!”
One other fan joined in on showering the singer with praise after watching. “Her voice is so timeless, even after years. I love Adele.”
The artist’s record-breaking hasn’t stopped there, as her new single managed to beat Ed Sheeran’s 2017 release Shape of You in chart sales, with 217,300 recorded. Considering these numbers, it's suggested Easy on Me, like Ed’s worldwide hit, will succeed greatly in international sales.
So far this year, the single has had the most digital download sales for its first week with 23, 500. No doubt this figure will continue to rise as in the anticipation of Adele’s upcoming album released on 19 November.
Titled 30, the singer revealed in a recent video interview with Vogue that this project would be her be her most introspective to date.
“It’s definitely my most personal yet I think,” she said.
Receiving a taster of what’s to come, Adele fans have eagerly been listening to her previous music, re-entering the singer’s classic hits, ‘When We Were Young’ and ‘Someone Like You' in the charts at the 25th and 34th spots, respectively.
Elsewhere in the charts, Elton John and Dua Lipa fell from number one to second place with their single Cold Heart, while Ed Sheeran came in at third with single Shivers.
Coldplay’s Music of Spheres became the fastest-selling album of this year reaching top of the album chart and 101,000 chart sales. This is the ninth consecutive chart-topping album for the band.
Adele also re-entered this chart with her last album, 25, placing in at third below The Beatles’ Super Deluxe Edition of their last album Let It Be.
Considering the already giant success of Adele’s leading single from upcoming album, 30, the singer will likely be smashing more records upon its release in short of a month’s time.
