MEGHAN Markle wanted to be an "accessible people's princess" before she quit the Royal Family, her hairdresser has revealed.
The Duchess of Sussex's hairdresser George Northwood opened up about his working relationship with the former Suits actress in an interview with The Telegraph.
Describing how he had to create "appropriate" styles for the Duchess before royal engagements, the A-List hairstylist said: "We had to make sure we ticked all the boxes.
"But then we wanted to make her look accessible and like a people’s princess that everyone relates to."
Meghan's mother-in-law Princess Diana became known as the "People's Princess" as a result of charity work which saw her become the patron of over 100 100 charitable organisations.
The celebrity hairstylist was the brains behind Meghan's loose bun on her wedding day, her slick up-do at the 2018 Fashion Awards and her sleek ponytail for one of her final royal engagements this year.
Recalling their first meeting, George added: "I was quite nervous, she was so lovely and down to earth. She said, 'I'm just a Cali girl' and I love that California hair."
As well as immediately making him feel at ease, George says he enjoyed styling Meghan's hair in his famous loose, beachy waves which he also does for Gwyneth Paltrow and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
The hairdresser also claims Meghan "grew into her role" and wanted to look more "sleek and 'together'" after welcoming baby Archie last year.
To mark Prince Harry and Meghan's official exit from the Royal Family yesterday, George shared a touching tribute to the couple on Instagram.
It has been an enormous privilege and a lot of fun working with the The Duke and Duchess of Sussex over the past two years. I have enjoyed every minute collaborating with this amazing couple who not only champion small businesses but have taught me so much about diversity, equality and the importance of good mental health. Here are a few of their many wonderful moments that I was honoured to be a part of. Harry, Meghan and Archie, wishing you much love and luck for your next exciting chapter! Can’t wait to see you one day soon – and so happy to now be able to share about our special time together 😘 #GeorgeNorthwood #TheDukeandDuchessofSussex #MeghanandHarry

As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise. What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic. As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute. While you may not see us here, the work continues. Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great! Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another. Harry and Meghan
